Question about the Order

Hello, Jedi.I would like to ask a question about the Jedi Order, as stated in the title. It's pretty simple. As I remember from the Star Wars movies, The Jedi Order is a monastic peacekeeping organization unified by it's belief and observance of the Force, specifically the light side. This leads me to believe that this Jedi church should practice some means of training towards the defense of others, yet I see none on this site. I understand a Jedi's unwillingness to harm another person, but there are several Martial Arts that are designed solely for the purpose of defending one's self and others without hurting the attacker, the most famous of them being Aikido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikido) . Ueshiba's goal in Aikido was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. So, my question is, does The Jedi Church teach and practice the defense of the inn

Question about the Order(continued)
So, my question is, does The Jedi Church teach and practice the defense of the innocent? If not, why not?The Jedi Knights are mainly peacekeepers and public defenders, after all. Sorry, ran out of space there....
